NIN: NIMC Gives New Rules For All Applicants

With effect from Wednesday, December 30, National Identification Number (NIN) applicants will be required to do the registration exercise through a booking system throughout the country.

Facebook Removes Apple’s Blue Tick Verification Amid Escalating Feud

Facebook appears to have removed a blue tick verification from Apple’s social media page.

The Mark Zuckerberg-founded company usually gives giant businesses an organizations blue ticks to symbolize their authenticity.

Apple’s main rivals, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and Samsung, all have been given blue tick verification by Facebook.

It comes amid a feud between Facebook and Twitter over privacy.

At the crux of the issue is changes to Apple’s iOS 14 that will require users to give permission in order for apps to track them for advertising purposes.

The changes will restrict companies, including Facebook, from gathering data on users to provide personalized ads.

Media consultant Matt Navarra noticed the blue tick had vanished from Apple’s page on Facebook Tuesday morning – a week after the Mark Zuckerberg-founded site slammed the iPhone maker over its upcoming privacy changes.

‘Facebook has removed Apple’s blue tick Page verification,’ Navarra wrote.

On Facebook, almost all big brands and organizations are given a blue tick on their official social media pages to symbolize their authenticity.

Apple’s main rivals, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, and Samsung have all been given such ticks by Facebook.

It is unclear exactly when Facebook decided to delete Apple’s blue tick. DailyMail.com has reached out to the company for comment.

Apple still has a blue tick verification on Instagram – which is owned by Facebook.

Silicon Valley’s latest war over privacy erupted last week. At the crux of the issue is changes to Apple’s iOS 14.4, which will go live next year and require users to give permission in order for apps to track them for advertising purposes.

How to take a screenshot on a PC

These quick tips will help you get the perfect screenshot on a PC.

If you need tech support to help you out with a problem or just want to capture a great moment on your PC, you need to know how to take a screenshot.

There are a number of different ways to do so in Windows and which method you prefer will be entirely down to your preferences. We’ll walk you through the easiest way to start off — and then offer an alternative method at the end.

Step 1: Capture the image

Bring up whatever it is you want to capture on your screen and press the Print Screen (often shortened to “PrtScn”) key. It’s typically located in the upper-right corner of your keyboard and will take a screengrab of everything on all of your displays. Alternatively, press Alt + Print Screen to capture a screenshot of the active window. If you’re on a laptop, you may need to press Fn + Print Screen or the Windows key + Print Screen if your laptop has another feature assigned to that particular key.
In many computers, your screen will flicker or darken briefly to let you know that the screenshot has been taken. However, sometimes there’s no obvious sign that screenshot worked, so you’ll have to look in your storage to make sure it was taken. Note that if you aren’t using the Fn key, make sure that the key is not illuminated or turned on: On some laptops, a lit Fn key will prevent the screenshot process from working properly because Windows registers three keys instead of two (same with Caps lock, etc.).
Microsoft’s OneDrive will typically save the screen automatically in the OneDrive folder. You will now be able to find it there, in Pictures, under Screenshots (the Screenshots folder may appear if this your first one). You can go here to open the file and rename it if you wish. If you have Dropbox installed, the screenshot may also be automatically deposited in your Dropbox directory, under Screenshots (ideal for your “Showcase“).

Step 2: Open Paint

Check out your screenshot in the Screenshots folder. If you like it just the way it is, great! You can save it, move it, attach it to an email, and upload it wherever you need. However, for many screenshots you may also want to crop or alter it in some way. There are many programs that can do this, but the one closest at hand is the long-suffering Microsoft Paint.
As long as you’re running the latest version of Windows 10, type “Paint” into the Windows search bar and click the corresponding result.

Step 3: Paste the screenshot

Once Paint is open, click the Paste button in the upper-left corner of the program, or press Ctrl + V on the keyboard to paste your screenshot. You should see the image you captured appear in your edit windows in Paint.
From there, perform any edits you want, including cropping or selecting a certain part of it.

Step 4: Save the screenshot

paint-screenshot-windows
Click the main File option in the upper-left corner, followed by Save as.
Title the new file, choose a save location, and select your desired file format from the drop-down menu. For most purposes, JPG will do fine, but a variety of other formats are available to choose from such as PNG, BMP, GIF and others. Click the gray Save button in the bottom-right corner when finished.
And that’s it! You’re done.

Alternatives: The Snipping Tool

Windows Snipping Tool
The best alternative method is the Windows 10 Snipping Tool. The built-in screen capture utility in Windows works well enough, but it’s not the most robust or versatile when it comes to saving a snapshot of your screen. The Snipping Tool, however, is a utility that allows users to better define and capture portions of their desktop display as a screenshot, without the need for a keyboard.
To start, just type Snipping tool into the Windows 10 search bar and select it to open it up. From there, it’ll give you options such as drawing a Free-form Snip, a Windows Snip, or a Rectangular Snip. You can even set it to delay a certain amount of time if you’re trying to capture a precise moment in a video or animation. You can then take repeated snips in the same mode simply by pressing the Alt and N keys.
The snipping tool continues to gain new functionality as well. For example, it can now use image editing functions to create the Sketch and Snip application. Any time you take a screenshot it will automatically appear as a thumbnail — like MacOS Mojave does — so that you can then take it straight to the Snip and Sketch app for easy editing.
If you want even more options for choosing and customizing your screenshot (and don’t mind downloading a new app), we suggest giving LightShot a try. Lightshot may be a better option for more professional work, or screenshots that need significant editing.

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp Got Affected, All Down For Hours

Facebook users around the world are reporting issues logging into and posting on the site as well as on Instagram and WhatsApp.
Facebook hasn’t given a reason for the outage, and provided minimal information other than acknowledging it is aware of the outage.
Facebook shares were relatively unchanged Wednesday afternoon.
The company acknowledged the outage in a tweet Wednesday, saying, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
It later confirmed the problem was not the result of a DDoS attack, which refers to a Distributed Denial-of-Service attack in which a hacker overwhelms a site by flooding it with fake traffic.

6 Reasons Why Parents Should Expose Children To Technology Early

There is a need In this current digital age for children to be exposed to the usage of technological devices for the purpose of learning and others.

6 Reasons Why Parents Should Expose Children To Technology Early
New and emerging technologies have always been associated with the younger generations. Older people tend to be set in their ways, leaving tech-savvy millennials in the forefront of discovering and embracing new devices as they arrive on the scene. Younger people learn more quickly, and that goes for technology in the same way it goes for everything else.
According to the research and development unit of Yudala, the decision on when a child can be allowed access to technological gadgets such as laptops, tablets and smartphones is to be made by parents during their children’s formative years.
It said recent studies showed that active or interactive technology and screen time can actually help to develop and improve your kid’s learning, when used appropriately, and highlighted a number of ways children can benefit from early exposure to modern technology.
(1). More visually attentive kids
Exposure to games and other relevant applications on tech devices can help raise a generation of more visually attentive kids. This is because a significant amount of attention to detail is required on the part of kids when exposed to visually stimulating contents on tablets and other entry-level gadgets. There are many devices that can help build the requisite attention to detail and capacity for visual attention in children.
(2). Improve language skills
The benefits of technology for kids, especially at an early age are numerous. One of such areas is in developing their language skills. There are many of applications and games to help boost their vocabulary and teach them to look for word meanings when they come across an unfamiliar word.
(3). Build discipline and self-motivation
Exposing your child to technology from an early age is a sure way of building discipline and self-motivation, two qualities that are ultimately crucial to your child’s future development. A lot of games and activities on tech devices often require the user to complete a task in order to progress to another level. Completing the entire course requires a huge dose of mental discipline and personal resolve. As a result, exposure to these learning apps inadvertently challenges a child and pushes him/her to strive to go the extra lengths in order to enjoy the thrill and satisfaction that come from achievement. Your child, therefore, develops a disciplined mindset that sees challenges as surmountable as long as he/she keeps trying to overcome them. This is effortlessly transferred to real-life situations.
(4). Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is a buzzword that is becoming increasingly relevant in the contemporary work-place. Most organisations today prioritise the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. This quality can be developed in your child right from an early age through exposure to technology. There are numerous emotional intelligence apps pre-loaded on tablets which teach kids what emotions are, how they work, and how to use them and manage them for social interaction and learning. Among other things, these applications teach a child how to recognise other people’s emotions, to discriminate among the different feelings, and to label them appropriately. Armed with this insight, your child can learn from an early age how to refrain from emotional outbursts and undisciplined loss of self-control, thus leading to a well-rounded personality.
(5). Develop Maths skills
Research shows that younger children are more interested in the short-term goals of games, which are essential in problem solving. Logic games, obstacle courses and other applications on tech devices go a long way to build your child’s basic mathematic skills by imbuing them with the capacity for quantitative reasoning. For parents, this is very important as the phobia or apathy often expressed by most people for Mathematics is a result of wrong or late exposure to its usefulness in the analysis and interpretation of real-world quantitative information.
(6). Develop new talents
Technology can help unearth hitherto-hidden skills and talents in your child. From being exposed to certain musical instruments or skills such as painting on the screen of a tablet, for instance, your child can develop a keen interest, which may see him/her becoming proficient at these activities. With the aid of technology, which bridges the gap, you may not even have to pay the hefty fees of enrolling your child in a physical music or painting class to learn. There are loads of apps that your child can take advantage of to learn and become the next Mozart or Leonardo da Vinci. Early exposure to technology has the potential to unlock amazing new interests in your child which, coupled with the natural curiosity in kids, can transform your child into a whiz-kid.
A note of caution: It is important to mention that parental supervision is key. A child should not be given a tablet without supervision. Handing over a tech device to your child requires a great level of responsibility. So, as a parent, be sure to trust your instinct. However, the fact is allowing children have access to tech devices can benefit them in many ways. As a parent, you may be nervous at first, but there are some real, tangible benefits to be derived from exposing your child to tech devices such as tablets. Most experts recommend not more than a half hour of screen time per sitting for a child. This is bearing in mind that tablets may be addictive for children because it allows quick, instant access to everything in the real world. As long as parents do their best to monitor, protect, and prepare their children, and usage doesn’t get out of hand, technology exposure can provide great opportunities for children to grow and develop.

We Will Join Others On Nationwide Strike - Electricity Workers

National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, make a serious threats to join others for the impending nationwide strike.

Electricity workers

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday said loading of products, including aviation fuel, would stop from today as affiliates of United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, begin an indefinite strike.

According to Financial Watch, the industrial action is fresh move by the United Labor Congress, ULC, a union that seeks to act as umbrella for both NLC and TUC. However, leaders of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Employees, NUBIFIE, said members may not effectively join the strike today because the union just concluded its delegates conference weekend, warning, however, that members would fully join should the strike persist.

But the NLC and TUC have insisted that ULC was fake, since it was not recognized by government, and urged Nigerians to ignore the group.

Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Labour also held on to its earlier position that the ULC was not recognized by the Federal Government.

The Presidency, through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said last night that the Presidency stands by the Labour Minister’s position that the ULC is not recognized by the Federal Government.

5 Reasons Why People Love iPhones

Have you ever wondered why iPhones have such a great appeal to its users?, Or why people loves it so much?

Iphone

So, below are 5 reasons why some people love iPhones.

(1). Its Class
Having an iPhone is like ‘having the month’s hottest accessory’. There is a status that comes with the phone that is practically unrivaled, for this reason the phone is more or less a precious object to most iPhone users and an extension of themselves (they paid good money to attain that class, so they want you to see it). Some iPhone buyers are even more attracted to its prestigious status symbol than the function of the phone itself.

(2). Its Design
iPhones look great, they look classy and sleek and that is one thing that can hardly be denied. Even after many upgrades and changes, the iPhone still has the most singular look of any smartphone in existence. The fact is, there is simply no smartphone device in the market that is as immediately recognizable as an iPhone – there is simply none like it. In addition, the phone has a practically flawless fit and finish and is made with very high quality materials.

(3).  It’s Incredibly Easy To Use
Over many years, iPhones still remain the easiest phone to use by far and its users love the phone for this. It has also managed to maintain its classic look and feel over many years, which is considerably impressive.

(4). Its Apps
iPhones have the advantage of the best quality and quantity of available apps. Usually, the best apps can immediately be found on the Apple app store the minute they come out. Android, more particularly Microsoft and BlackBerry, have had more trouble convincing developers to create software for their devices, mainly because Apple users spend more on apps, which leads to a bigger potential payout for developers, so developers are more keen on immediately developing apps for Apple.

(5). Its Operating System
Another unique feature of the iPhone which is unlike any other is its operating system – it leaves its users coming back for more. Apple releases a new mobile operating system every year, with updates that keep making everything about the phone so perfectly engineered to the way its users like it. The constant updates keep users coming back for more.

Checkout The Top 5 Reasons Many People Love Android Devices

The debate on which is the better operating system between the iOS and Android operating system is a debate that will probably never be concluded, however, it is impossible to deny some of the impressive features that the Android operating system offers.

5 reasons people love Android devices.

(1). There are Widgets!
With widgets you can ‘see all the information you need at a glance’ without having to open an app. Widgets are a major advantage Android devices have over iOS devices, mainly because even with Apple’s recent launch of widgets on their iOS devices, it still remains very limited on iOS compared to the widgets of Android devices that are more unbounded and offer more varieties.

(2). It Allows Customization
Another strong feature of Android devices is the fact that it allows customization. Unlike most Apple devices, Android devices let you choose any level of customization you want and this flexibility is what really appeals to most smartphone users. This is because many smartphone users generally tend to want to explore the limits of their devices, and they typically like having the ability to freely customize and play around with features and design of their phones.

(3). It’s Affordable
Buying an Android device is unlikely to devastate your bank account, and for that affordability it remains an attractive option to many. With varieties of devices, designs and specs, Android devices really have something to suit every budget range and offers a true and enjoyable smartphone experience. Android's affordability is what has driven and continues to drive its worldwide dominance.

(4). Its Seamless Integration With Google’s Services
Android devices integrate seamlessly with Google’s varieties of services, and this works just great because Google is largely considered the ‘king of the web’. Apple and iOS doesn’t seem to be able to keep up in this area, and have had to yield to accommodating more Google services on their platform. Unfortunately, the seamless integration enjoyed between Android devices and Google services, is not replicated in the integration of iOS and Google services.

(5). It Allows For Multi-Tasking
Some might argue that iOS devices also allow multi-tasking, but what they cannot deny is that the level of multi-tasking that iOS devices support, does not come anywhere near the level of multi-tasking some Android phones offer. Samsung phones are a good examples of Android phones that have great multi-tasking features. This is one area that Apple is more or less playing catch-up to Android devices.
